Umbrella Bar Wedding - Ottawa
Lindsay and Cameron’s wedding was the definition of personal details and it made my little creative heart swoon. Lindsay designed all of the stationary herself, and you could really tell that every choice both her and Cameron made was so intentional. I admire weddings constructed that way because when it all comes together, you can really visualize a couple’s story through their love of colour, texture, little mementos, and shared hobbies.
I think every single person in the room had goosebumps when Lindsay walked down the aisle to Video Games by Lana Del Ray. It’s one of those moments as a photographer that sticks with you for the entirety of your career. One of the many joys I had during this wedding day was the thought put into the itinerary and how it was all perfectly planned out. L + C prioritized their timeline with ensuring they had loads of time to get ready (which allotted many fun getting ready images without stressing about time), and also ensured they had lots of wiggle room to get the creative portraits with both their wedding parties, as well as together without there being that stress of running out of time. Given their wedding was in October, they planned their ceremony early enough that they could still enjoy cocktail hour with the sun up, and catch golden hour just before their dinner began at 6pm. If you are planning a late fall or winter wedding, it’s highly recommended to allow yourself at least 2 hours of sunlight between the end of your ceremony and the beginning of your dinner!
— Speaking of dinner, I am a girl that appreciates ambiance and L + C delivered. Every table was filled with taper candles which allowed for the dreamiest evening glow during dinner. So much so, I ended up packing up my flash and using the candles as my light. I personally much prefer using natural light when it comes to evening dinners but it’s really only ever achievable when there is a strong amount of ambiance coming from candles and string lights. Taper candles and pillar candles will truly bring that glow to life, but again, you need a significant amount of them to deliver that glow. To top off why I loved this dinner set up so much was the fact that people were seated in more of a family style with the long farmhouse tables. It brings everyone much closer together and it photographs so beautifully. The cherry on top was watching each guest open their personalized letter L+C had written to them. SO sweet.
